Guwahati: One more person has tested positive for the dreaded Covid-19 in Nagaland on Wednesday, taking the overall tally up to 128.

"Out of 273 samples tested, 1 new case of COVID-19 +ve from Kohima Quarantine Centre have been reported in the last 24 hours", Nagaland Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom wrote on Twitter.

 It needs mention here that 10 persons have recovered from the respiratory illness so far, and the number of active cases in the state now stands at 128.

Nagaland, which was coronavirus-free two weeks ago, on Saturday become the fourth north-eastern State after Assam, Tripura, and Manipur with total positive cases in three digits. With the return of around four lakh natives from the south and north India, coronavirus cases in eight north-eastern States have spiked upwards at a dramatic rate.

At the same time, the number of cases have also contained to tick upwards in India at a dramatic rate. The country today reported a spike of 9,985 more COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country's count to 2,76,583, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. 279 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total death count to 7,745.

Globally, the number of Covid-19 cases has risen 7,323,803. While 3,603,991 patients have recovered from the pathogen, 413,733. The United States, currently witnessing a civil war-like situation over the killing of a black man by a white police officer, has so far reported the highest number of cases (2,045,549) and deaths (114,148), reports worldometers.
